We purchase our own TVs and put them under the same test bench, so that you can compare the results easily. No cherry-picked units sent by brands. Roku is well-known in the world of streaming devices, but they're typically known for their external dedicated Smart TV boxes and streaming sticks.

Other brands, including Hisense, have started integrating the Roku smart platform into their TVs, but we haven't reviewed many of these yet. With a VA panel, it has a fantastic contrast ratio and near-perfect black uniformity, so blacks look amazing when viewed in the dark. Unfortunately, the contrast ratio comes at the cost of good viewing angles, which are quite sub-par on this TV, so the image looks washed out when viewed from the side. This TV can get really bright to combat glare in bright rooms and its great HDR peak brightness brings out highlights and vivid colors.

This TV can remove judder from all sources, which is rare for a 60Hz TV, so lower frame rate content will look great. Unfortunately, the gray uniformity is decent and there's noticeable vertical banding in all types of content. Overall, this TV offers a great picture quality with a built-in Roku operating system, making it the best Roku TV we've tested so far. It isn't as advanced as the other TCL, and it doesn't have the same great dark room performance, mainly due to the lack of local dimming support.

If you want a Roku TV with the best picture quality, then get the R; if you only care about the Roku TV interface and are willing to make small compromises in picture quality, then get the S Like the other TCL models, this TV uses a VA panel and has an outstanding contrast ratio, excellent response time, and exceptional input lag.

Unfortunately, this TV lacks a few features that are on the more expensive models, such as local dimming and motion interpolation. Although most casual gamers are okay with the 60Hz refresh rate, the lack of support for variable refresh rate may deter more serious gamers. You'll get the same Roku experience as all the higher-end models, but it doesn't support HDR and the peak brightness is sub-par, so it's best to avoid using this TV in brightly-lit rooms. Overall, if you're simply looking for a small Roku TV to use in a secondary room, this one can get the job done.

I call it the monster haha. The picture quality is great. Starts up super fast and is very, very easy to jump into my ps4 or cable box or amazon video app. The sound quality and loudness has been the biggest surprise. We all know audio has sucked on tv's since the late 90s lol This thing is on level 25 volume I have small noisy fan running near by and I have zero issues hearing my games. I've enjoyed it so much I bought another inch.

This TV was easy to set up and easy to opperate. Link it to your Roku account and you can add any app that Roku has. Picture is also super clear and crisp. Great tv Just moved into my first apartment and decided to purchase a tv. I bought this tv the day before thanksgiving and when it arrived,I hired someone to mount the tv against the wall. After it was mounted on the wall, it was turned on,only to discover this huge mark on the inside.

So disappointed. Sharp 58 inch Roku TV. Often get blank menu with just black boxes on all screens. Sometimes description is there but missing letters.

Seems like a cache issue as unplugging the unit most of the time fixes it, but i don't want to have to unplug the tv every time i use it. Can you please provide a solution, as this tv is mounted and would rather fix it then return it.

I'm requesting a permanent solution not just "try this when it happens" as a good product would not have this issue in the first place. Thanks for your time. Here at Walmart. TVs should really just be dumb displays. Their security practices are often pretty bad, too. This data can be sold to marketers, or it could be tied to you somehow to create a better ad-targeting profile. Vizio just made headlines because such a feature is enabled by default on Vizio smart TVs. Smart TVs also have questionable security protections. Vizio TVs transmitted this tracking data without any encryptionso other people can snoop on the snooping.

Some smart TVs have built-in cameras and microphones — if the security is so shoddy in general, it would theoretically be possible for an attacker to spy on you through your TV. This will also prevent your smart TV from embedding extra advertisements into other things you watch — yes, some Samsung smart TVs actually do that! That box can be connected to the Internet.

If you do want to leave it connected to the network, you could try to disable the spying features. This will be a different process on different models of TVs. Worse yet, just toggling the option may not do anything. Disabling the spying features may also not prevent the TV from being exploited through its security holes.

New spying features could be automatically added in firmware updates. Other smart TVs from other manufacturers may have many different settings named different things from model to model.

Smart appliances sound alright, but the reality — spying and security holes — seems like a serious problem. The Best Tech Newsletter Anywhere. HELLO WORLD

How-To Geek is where you turn when you want experts to explain technology. Since we launched inour articles have been read more than 1 billion times. Want to know more?Hi there! Thanks for the note! Turning on Fast TV Start shouldn't have a large impact on network data usage. This allows your TV to be more responsive when turning on, and receive any updates as soon as they are available. Have you called and spoken to Sharp Support yet to see if they have any other suggestions for your device?

I had the same issue with my TV. One day I turned it on and the network connection was lost, and the TV could not find any new networks. I was able to fix it by resetting the network connection in settings. Did you have this problem? Roku Community. Sign In Help. I have a sharp 50" roku tv, it has been a great tv for the last year, but i have begun to experience wifi issues with it, unfortunately it has no ethernet jack So this is what i go through on a daily basis. I turn on the tv and wait for the 'not connected' to turn to the time, and make sure the led is not blinking, i then open a channel like youtube or hulu, and as the channel loads the tv looses wifi until i go home, then it quickly reconnects, and is usually good the rest of the day.

So i have called roku support, and they had me reset network settings and delete the channels having issues but that did not help I then factory reset the tv, which also had no effect.

Any ideas? I read a post about a tcl with wifi issues and recommends turning on fast tv start, am i correct to think if the wifi is failing, turning on fast tv start may kill the wifi faster due to being active all the time, or do you think it would be ok? But of course, buying a TV is about much more than just specs. In Maythough, under new Taiwanese parent company Foxconn, Sharp had financially turned itself around enough to buy back those rights from Hisense and Sharp-made Sharp TVs are expected to be back on sale in the US since the end of A scorching deal — perhaps Best Buy's best! Looking at the Sharp TV website, there are certainly some very interesting Sharp Q-series sets out there.

Note that these are still models and are only sparingly available in the shops. The plug-in Roku streaming devices became so popular in the US that some TV manufacturers started hard-baking the smart TV platform directly into their sets, negating the need for owners to buy a separate streamer.

They're currently only available as open-box models but that brings some possibilities of real bargains. They support HDR10, come fitted with plenty of ports, Miracast for screen mirroring and the Freeview Play tuner and catch-up services combo.

They're direct-lit LED models, which may provide a decent level of consistency across the panel, and Harman Kardon has been called in to tune the TVs' 2 x 10W speaker system. It also still comes with Freeview Play and both catch-up and streaming services. Obviously, there's no disc player included this time but there are still all the smart features to enjoy.

It's another p set but with no DVD player built-in this time. It does get the Harman Kardon-tuned 20W speaker system and there's still all the apps and services included. There aren't too many options at this size. All the same, it feels like there's better value to be had elsewhere. However, as appealing as all that screen seems for that price, this is one of the few Sharp TVs we've had in for review in recent times and we weren't particularly impressed.

It's decked out with Freeview Play and a healthy sounding smart platform with enough space for a couple of HDMI ports. Without testing many of Sharp's older or newer models, it's tricky to categorically recommend a Sharp TV.

By and large, the current crop of Sharp TVs appear decent value if you pick the right one. The Roku TV access is a welcome feature and you get a lot of screen estate for your money.

There are caveats, however. Also, while the Roku TVs are good, if you're not fussed about this feature, you might want to entertain a Sharp TV that doesn't have it.
